Jason Matheson

Jason Matheson is an entertainment reporter and film critic for FOX-owned and operated station, KMSP-TV, FOX 9 NEWS in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

He began at KMSP in the spring of 2000 as executive producer of "The Buzz", a long-running and highly popular daily entertainment segment that covered local and national entertainment. Within months of his arrival at KMSP, he was moved in front of the camera as film critic for the station's newly-launched morning show, "Good Day Minnesota".

Matheson is originally from Michigan City, Indiana. He attended Columbia College in Chicago, studying Communications and Television Production.

Matheson began his television career at WCCO-TV in Minneapolis. He began as an overnight dispatcher, working the weekend overnight shift. Within a few months he was promoted to assistant assignment editor and then to weekend assignment editor.

During his time at FOX 9, Matheson has interviewed celebrities from Ewan McGregor to Cher to Will Smith to Arthur Miller to Randy Jackson and many more. In a trial by fire moment, his first-day assignment at KMSP was to go to Paisley Park to produce a segment with local music legend Prince. He now appears regularly in many FOX 9 newscasts, in many different roles. He has a twice-weekly segment called "The Must List," which spotlights the hottest things in entertainment. Matheson also serves as the station's "American Idol" correspondent, providing content for both TV and the station's newly-launched website, MyFoxTwinCities.com. In addition to the website, Matheson hosts a weekly "American Idol" segment on the myfoxtwincities website called "Idol Chatter". During the webcast users can log in, choose a name, and chat with Matheson throughout the broadcast of "American Idol".

In addition to FOX, Matheson provides reviews and entertainment reports for many of the Twin Cities' top rated radio stations.

Every Saturday night Matheson can be heard hosting "The Saturday Night Groove" on 107.1FM. The show starts at 7pm and ends around 10pm (central time).

Matheson is a three-time Emmy Award nominee and one-time winner as producer for a series of investigative promotions for FOX 9.

Matheson is also a supporter of many charities, including District 202, an organization dedicated to helping gay youth, and previously Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Twin Cities. This organization was near to Matheson's heart because it brought him together with his son, Brendon.
