Jason Lee Middle School opened its doors to the public in September 1965. The first year had 812 students in attendance and 34 staff members. The school was named after the notable missionary and pioneer Jason Lee.
[edit] Current
Jason Lee Middle School has 50 teachers serving approximately 850 students. Students at Jason Lee have diverse backgrounds and economic status. In the 2007-2008 school year 60% of all students receive free or reduced price lunches. 27.6% of the students are in Jason Lee's ELL (English Language Learning) program and 14.2% are in Special Education.[1] Jason Lee Middle School is the only Middle School in Vancouver School District with an ELL (English Language Learning) program.
Like many High Schools and some other Middle Schools, Jason Lee has it's own student-run program for announce and notifications, typically broadcasted internally at the beginning of the school day. Students act as the newscasters, and help behind the scenes.
[edit] Mission
The mission of Jason Lee Middle School is to open doors to students' success by developing lifelong learners, responsible decision-makers, and caring and contributing members of society. Jason Lee staff believe that all students want to succeed at school.[2]
