[edit] Where did he go to University?

The Pulp page doesn't say either

[edit] Jarvis/Joe

I strongly feel that the "Jarvis Cocker is not related to Joe Cocker" comment does not belong in this article. If they were related, then certainly add a Joe Cocker reference. But as they're not, I don't think it should be here. Besides, there's no corresponding reference on the Joe Cocker page.

I've therefore removed the reference twice, but an anonymous user has reinstated it. What are anyone else's views on this one? CLW 15:26, 6 October 2005 (UTC)

You're correct. Perhaps the anon. author would like to attend to all the articles about people called Smith? ;-) Andy Mabbett 16:29, 6 October 2005 (UTC)
Good - glad it's not just me! Done. CLW 16:16, 7 October 2005 (UTC)
I disagree. Jarvis and Joe are both from Sheffield, and there has been some confusion about whether or not they are related (i.e. I've heard "Is Jarvis' Joe's son?"), and their lack of a relationship has been mentioned in other media (I remember a Rolling Stone [or similar music magazine] on Joe that had the Jarvis questioned raised), plus both being musicians (albeit with differing musical styles, to be sure) and having a relatively uncommon name. I don't feel it's that big a deal, but if it's very upsetting to everyone that this point is there, I won't do anything about it. Wikipedia is a place for pertinent biographical information (I feel this point is) to be edited by ALL, not just by some folks who feel that it fit their own personal strictures. If there were two gentlemen named Smith who came from a town in England who were both in the music business and has claims to generational influence, I would certainly add a reference.
I fail to see why this is such a big deal. The Invisible Man 19:49, 4 November 2005 (UTC)

Knowing the both Joe and Jarvis Cocker were from Sheffield, I did a google search to find out if they were related. I found this page, when it would seem more appropriate to find it in the proper entry. Just my tuppence worth.

Joe Cocker used to babysit Jarvis so there is a link. So there.

I agree - 'Cocker' is not the most common surname around and as both Joe and Jarvis are singers from Sheffield, it would be worth mentioning the fact for the benefit of people who've heard of both and might be wondering, particularly after they've read about the babysitting. Joe Cocker said on Jools Holland's show five minutes ago that he never used to babysit for Jarvis, and has never met him. "So there".
There is a popular misconception that Joe and Jarvis Cocker are related, especially here in Sydney where Mack Cocker let the myth spread: astute Googling will confirm this. One of the most valuable services of Wikipedia is to counter myths and mistakes, I find the comment above that it's "out of place" to state they are not related to be bizarre. It's in now, but not isolated, it's in the context of abandonment by his father, which is an influence on his life and songwriting as the references show. [edit] Teddy Bandits?!!!

What's the paragraph at the bottom of the page about Cocker's occult interests and ties to a group called 'Teddy Bandits'? I'm a long-time Pulp fan and never heard anything of the sort, nor can I find anything online about 'Teddy Bandits'.

Is this something genuine, or someone's idea of an injoke?

UPDATE - I deleted the paragraph, as the user of the IP logged as writing this paragraph has vandalised a couple of other Britpop entries, so I'm presuming it's a load of rubbish as I originally thought.

[edit] 2 Children

I was on holidays in Paris (July 2006)and saw him in a Park, he seem to have 2 sons. One would be 10-12, the other 4-6. I didn't edit the article as I have no confimation that these are actually his kids, though they look very much so.

His wife already has a kid from a previous relationship (see [1]), so that was probably the older child you saw. 217.34.39.123 16:59, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] All Seeing I

There should probably be a mention for All Seeing I but as the page has been divided into Pulp and Post Pulp and All Seeing I was 1998 during Pulp's album's it doesn't really fit.

Was that before or after This Is Hardcore came out? It should maybe be squeezed into the Pulp section as it happened during that era. The "Ciao" collaboration with Lush arguably deserves a brief mention too. 217.34.39.123 16:33, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Running The World

Is the freebie download track (and album bonus song) "Running The World" really classed as a "single", in the sense of being eligible for the UK Top 40 or whatever? 217.34.39.123 16:44, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image on the page

The image of the subject falls foul of the fair use policy; specifically item 1. The current image is used to identify the subject, and it is possible to have a free use image take its place. There currently is an image, Image:Jarviscockerpulp.jpg that could be used although it is a low quality picture. Someone may wish to locate a better free image. If no chagne has been made in a couple of days, I will replace the image myself. Just wanted to give those with more knowledge of the subject a chance to make the change, or find another image, themselves.--Gay Cdn (talk) (Contr.) 00:12, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Joe Cocker

Is he any relation to Joe Cocker?

No. See first comments. Rexparry sydney 01:33, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Interview

He was interviewed by Terry Gross during NPR's Fresh Air on 6/25/2007. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=11354709 --24.175.203.124 14:38, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Navbox

I started to design a Jarvis navbox, because his article was a forest of wikilinks. If there are any suggestions, let me know. Link: User:Steveprutz/Sandbox2. StevePrutz (talk) 21:49, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

Now it's up at Template:JarvisCocker. StevePrutz (talk) 10:00, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Art on Tv

Jarvis presented a series on art done by ordinary people on TV. I can't find a reference to it 217.205.224.155 (talk) 10:29, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
