Jaruco is a municipality and city in the La Habana Province of Cuba.
The town was founded in 1762 under the name Conde de San Juan del Jaruco.[1] "Jaruco" was the pre-columbian Taíno name of the settlement.[4]

In 2004, the municipality of Jaruco had a population of 25,658.[3] With a total area of 276 km² (106.6 sq mi),[2] it has a population density of 93.0/km² (240.9/sq mi).
In 1940, the municipality was divided into the barrios of Arroyo Vuelto, Casiguas, Castilla, Ciudad de Jaruco, Don Martín, Escaleras de Jaruco, Bainoa, San Antonio de Río Blanco and Santa Ana. [1] Since 1976 Caraballo (formerly part of Aguacate, and later San Antonio-Caraballo, Bainoa and Camilo Ciernfuegos municipalities) became the second largest town in the municipality. Recently (2006) the phone code was changed to 53-47-87 + phone number
