In December 1995, while attending Chaparral High School in Scottsdale, Arizona, Bellini began writing for the youth-oriented Alt. section of The Arizona Republic. Shortly after getting on board with his home state's largest daily newspaper, he fell into an unexpected role as a regular humor columnist. This new exposure was highlighted by reports from Super Bowl XXX events in Tempe, Arizona and the 1996 Republican National Convention in San Diego. His popular columns lasted until June 1997 when he finally left the desert for American University in Washington, DC. There, he studied communications and sociology, and continued writing humor. Bellini also produced and performed with DC's highly-regarded live comedy troupe, Mission: IMPROV-able. In January 2004, Bellini joined CNN in Atlanta, and in June 2006, while still working in general media operations, he began writing and hosting a CNN.com video podcast called The Gryst. On July 26, 2007, after 57 episodes, The Gryst officially became News of the Absurd, ushering in new graphics, music, and technologies to keep up with the re-launch of CNN.com and the podcast's growing popularity.
