The Union Council of Jarral is one of the 57 Union Councils of Abbottabad District in the North-West Frontier Province of Pakistan[3].

Jarral Union Council is 37 km from the city of Abbottabad. Jarral is located in a valley which is surrounded by large forested mountains on three sides. These forests host a number of wild animals, such as jackals, wolves, pigs, porcupines and occasionally tigers. On the south of the valley there is the famous Tarbela Dam Jheel. The southern areas of Jarral UC borders Haripur District. There is also a beautiful valley near Jarral called Kotanali. While Jabbi is an exceedingly beautiful and scenic hill station in the suberbs of Jarral.

Jarral has a population of over 10,000. The local language is Hindko while Urdu is understood universally. The Tanolis are the main tribe of Jarral. A lot of people from Jarral are living abroad in countries like USA, UK, UAE, Saudi Arabia and other countries around the globe. Jarral is a main business point of surrounding areas with having a main bazzar. Jarral has good transport facilities for both cities (Abbottabad and Haripur). A very beautiful Masjid, Jamia Masjid Jarral (with modern facilities) is a part of Jarral and well known building of Jarral in surrounding areas.It is over a community centre with centuries of history .The main wooden-carved door of the mosque is a masterpiece in itself. Old relics of the dwellings of the past ages and graveyards of the antiquity testify to its historic antyecedents. Jarral have beautiful mountains as well as agricultural fields naturally laying step by step amazing scene.

Locals grow seasonal crops such as Maize (makai) and Wheat (kanak). Different Vegetables are also grown by people for their own use.

Four School in Jarral are serving in field of education;s Government Primary School for Boys, Govt High School for Boys, Govt Girls High School and Fatima Jinnah Public School (English Medum). The literacy rate of Jarral is high compared to the other villages of the District.In fact the litrecy rate of the locality is well above the national average. According to the national census of 1998,itsliteracy rate was more than 56%. A large number of people from Jarral are settled in Karachi, Abbottabad, Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

The Union Council is subdivided into the following areas: Bacha Sani, Kachhian, Pajwarh, Gul Bandi, Jabbi, Jarral, Khuliala, Bandi Dara, Sohai Dara, Sorha Dara, Kotnali and Nakhey Syedan[1].
