[edit] Using plain name of era as key instead of pagename
It may be more convenient and flexible to use for {{{1}}} the plain name of the era (also label), and instead of specifying a label, to specify a pagename, e.g. "Kanbun = Kanbun (era)" instead of "Kanbun (era) = Kanbun".
This would require a corresponding change in Template:Japanese year/era and year (backlinks, edit) and Template:Nengo (backlinks, edit).--Patrick 09:00, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
- This would run into trouble when one era name has the same romaji as another. I thought this was the case with Joo (second) and Joo (first), but it looks like they are "Jōō" and "Jō'ō" respectively. Some of the other era from Japanese era name are the same romanization, from what I can see: Jōgen, Jōwa, Kajō, Kōan, Kōji, Kōwa, Shōwa, and Tenshō. There are a few more if you count the alternate romanizations that are listed for some of the eras. Unfortunately, I don't actually know Japanese, so I can't say anything too informative about whether this is actually a problem. Mike Dillon 00:34, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

- With "plain name" I meant a name unique among eras, but not necessarily unique among Wikipedia pages, e.g. Shōwa.--Patrick 01:19, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

- There are two "Shōwa" eras, from what I can see, along with two Jōgen, Jōwa, Kajō, Kōan, Kōji, Kōwa, and Tenshō. From my reading of Japanese era name, it seems like the era names are not all unique, whereas the article names have to be. Mike Dillon 05:33, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

- Ok, but depending on context a label may have to be unique among eras too.--Patrick 00:41, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Expansion
{{Editprotected}} I would like to add more eras to the template, which currently covers up to only the 14th century eras. Corresponding changes are going to be made to Template:Nengo. -- Taku (talk) 06:34, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
- Please provide more information about the changes you require, and I'll change it for you. Thanks. — Tivedshambo (t/c) 09:33, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
- This is the new version User:TakuyaMurata/Template:Japanese_era I would like to put. It only adds more eras to the current list. -- Taku (talk) 09:49, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
