Talk:Japanese expansionism
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
As a general point I think consideration should be given to not allowing obviously Japanese opinions on this webpage at all. Given that the current Japanese education system is extraordinarily deficient in its treatment of Japans role in the leadup and participation in WW2 I fail to see how a Japanese educated person can make any sort of useful contribution. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 219.78.108.149 (talk) 07:25, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
- Um, no. WP:NPOV requires that there be a neutral point of view. A neutral point of view takes all points of views into account, and this includes Japanese POVs as well as the Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, American, etc. POVs. — Rickyrab | Talk 06:25, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
- Note: More astute observers might notice that I've used Pinyin translation from Chinese for Mao Zedong's name and Wade-Giles translation for Chiang Kai-shek. That's because I'm entirely against Wade-Giles, but couldn't find the Pinyin translation for Chiang. I find it hard to do the changes myself when I'm dealing with names. Any observers who would notice this probably know enough to fix it and delete this unsightly note. Please do so. Incidentally, the Wade-Giles form of "Mao Zedong" is "Mao Tse-tung." The conventions for Chinese translation are almost important enough to be an issue for people like Rhoades Murphey and Edward Said.
[edit] Merger
I'm inclined to merge this article with that of Empire of Japan. Any thoughts on this? Kokiri 13:48, 19 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- Agreed. Japanese militarism, Japanese nationalism, Japanese fascism, Japanese imperialism, Japanese expansionism, Militarism-Socialism in Showa Japan, Japanese military-political doctrines in the Showa period, Xenophobia in Showa Japan, etc. etc.... How many more do we need these heavily biased sophomoric essays on wartime Japan? --218.222.19.51 04:17, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
It's a bit problematic to file an article called Japanese expansionism under the Showa era (1925-1989). Japan began annexing territory during the Meiji period, beginning with Okinawa in 1874, Hokkaido, Taiwan in 1895, Southern Sakhalin and the Liaodung Peninsula in 1905, and Korea in 1910. I see that this article only covers Showa era events, but the title is misleading. Rebalex (talk) 15:07, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
Yes, this article is in fact just covering the first part of shōwa era. If this article is merged, we must not forget all the weird stuff like Japanese_nationalism: ideological development from the 1920s to 1945, Japanese nationalist thinking in the Meiji era and those cited above. Given their number, I would see an article merging all those related to expansionism and nationalism in Showa and meiji but I would keep Empire of Japan as it is (with sources). --Flying tiger (talk) 16:49, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] To Flying-Tyger
First, Please explain why "Eugenics in Showa Japan" and "Xenophobia in Showa Japan" relates to "Japanese expansionism" [1] --Azukimonaka 22:21, 2 November 2007 (UTC)
I can not understand why you honestly ask this question. Aren't you able to simply read english ? I agreed to your request since 25th October. Those links are NO MORE IN THE ARTICLE !!!!!!--Flying tiger 22:46, 2 November 2007 (UTC)
- Um, let's see how a real anglophone would phrase that question. First of all, that first sentence would probably be omitted, although it can be included. If the anglophone is a yob he or she'd probably start off with "Are you an idiot?" (However, this is very rude and impolite.) Anyhow, assuming he or she starts off with the second sentence: "Can't you read English? I've been following your request since 25th October (or October 25th, both forms are accepted by different groups). Those links NO LONGER EXIST IN THE ARTICLE !!!!" (number of exclamation points not important). — Rickyrab | Talk 06:18, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
Why did you add these? --Azukimonaka 23:16, 2 November 2007 (UTC)
Next, Is hakko ichiu a religion? And, Was the aggression on China of Japan begun in 1940 though this slogan was adopted in 1940?--Azukimonaka 23:16, 2 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Chronology of the war edit between Azukimonaka and Flying Tiger
- On 25th October, user:Azukimonaka delete ALL my edits of the 23th, while asking for the removal of Eugenics in Showa Japan and Xenophobia in Showa Japan as "see also" internal links.
**I keep requesting the explanation of the reason to add Eugenics in Showa Japan and Xenophobia in Showa Japan. Please answer. (written by Azukimonaka 4th November)
- To prevent another edit war similar the the ones Azukimonaka launched on Eugenics in Showa Japan, Manchukuo and Comfort women, I deleted the two categories the same day and put back my other edits.
**Because you did not participate in the discussion, your edit was sent back. (written by Azukimonaka 4th November)
- On 26th, Azukimonaka once again delete ALL my edits and still complain about the two links.
- On 27th, I explicitly inform Azukimonaka of this removal and put back my other edits.
**Will you explain the added reason?(written by Azukimonaka 4th November)
- On 31th, Azukimonaka delete once again ALL my edits and this time object to the well-known hakko ichiu while writing the he only deleted the sentence refering to this.
**Flying-Tyger wrote. «and was driven by a nationalist religious motivation : the hakko ichiu, her divine right to unify Asia under Emperor Showa's rule.»-Hakko ichiu is a slogan adopted for the Japanese government in 1940. (Japanese expansionism has started since 1926. )-Hakko ichiu is not a slogan of Shintoism. It is a slogan of Nichiren buddhism. (added by Azukimonaka, 4th November)
- The same day I reverted this change and reported to the administrators the actions of Azukimonaka on four articles.
- On 2th November, Azukimonaka revert once again ALL my edit, refering in the talk page to the two internal links deleted on the 25th.
- The same day I revert and register a request for page protection.
**Because your article was wrong, I sent it back. (added by Azukimonaka 4th November)
- The same day Azukimonaka delete ALL my edits and refer this time to : "two more problems, desctiption of South Korea etc." Anybody able to read english can see that I never added any sentence about the invasion of Korea and that it was in the article well before the 25th October. Still, Azukimonaka blames ME for this, while deleting ALL my other edits. [[2]]
**Neither Japan nor Korea are fighting. It was annexed based on the law as well as Okinawa and Hokkaido. -The reason to annex a Korean peninsula was done for the defense from Russia. Therefore, Japan did not obtain the profit from a Korean peninsula at all though it was an enormous investment. -Therefore, neither the Japan-Korea annexation nor Manchukuo are similar. (added by Azukimonaka, 4th November)
- On the 3th, three more reversions and I still wait for the protection request I made... --Flying tiger 20:49, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
P.S.Azukimonaka's subsequent additions in the list have been underlined to avoid more confusion, if it is possible.....--Flying tiger (talk) 13:41, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
-
- I do not have the keen interest in the indictment of the war crime of Japan. Time is very regrettable. --Azukimonaka 06:12, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
- Finally, Flying-Tyger was not able to object. Therefore, after protection is released, the article by his political insistence is deleted. --Azukimonaka 15:08, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
