- 1180 - 福原遷都
- 1467 - 京都で応仁の乱起こる。

- 1869 - 戊辰戦争終結、榎本武揚ら函館の五稜郭で投降。
- 1871 - 新貨条例が公布され、貨幣の単位が円・銭・厘となる。この日、金本位制による新貨条例が公布された。呼称は、「円」「銭」「厘」で、10進法。旧1両は、1円で金1.5gに変換された。
