- 1641 - オランダ商館が、平戸から出島に移る。

- 1882 - A horse drawn railway between Shinbashi and Nihonbashi begins operation.
- 1959 - Emperor Shōwa attends the first ever baseball game attended by an emperor, the Tokyo Giants against the Hanshin Tigers. With the game tied four to four at the bottom of the ninth, Nagashima Shigeo of the Giants (later a Giants coach) hits a sayonara homerun to win the game.
- 1966 - The law regarding national holidays is revised and Respect for the Aged Day and Health and Sports Day are created.
- 1976 - Kōno Yōhei, Tagawa Seiichi, Yamaguchi Toshio and three other members of the Liberal Democratic Party leave the party and form the New Liberal Club.
