• 1870 - The Tokyo government issues a permit to rickshaw inventors Izumi Yosuke, Suzuki Tokujiro and Takayama Kosuke to build and sell them. (Japanese Date: Twenty-second Day of the Third Month, 1870)
• 1901 - Japanese braille is first published.
• 1925 - Peace Preservation Law of 1925 is publicly announced.
• 1946 - Japanese comic-strip Sazae-san is first published in the newspaper Fukunichi Shimbun.
• 1947 - The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department begin testing the polygraph.
• 1950 - Fujiko Yamamoto wins the first The Miss Japan Grand Prix Pageant.
• 1981 - Mother Theresa visits Japan for the first time.
