- 1638 - The Shimabara Rebellion is put down. Christian farmers holed up in Shimabara Castle fall to an attack by Shogunate forces. (Traditional Japanese Date: Twenty-eighth Day of the Second Month, 1638)
- 1784 - The golden seal bestowed upon the king of Nakoku by the Chinese emperor Guāng Wǔ Dì is discovered on Shika Island in the Hakata Bay near modern day Fukuoka. (Traditional Japanese Date: Twenty-third Day of the Second Month, 1784)
- 1872 - Japan holds its first world expo at Yushima Hall. (Traditional Japanese Date: Fifth Day of the Third Month, 1872)
- 1877 - Tokyo University is founded.
- 1948 - The Japan Business Federation, or the Nikkeiren, is founded. The word "salaryman" was started by the Nikkeiren's long time Senior Director Maeda Hajime.
- 1968 - Japan's first modern high-rise, the 36 story 147 meter Kasumigaseki Building, is completed in Kasumigaseki, Tokyo.
