The Japanese Black Salamander (Hynobius nigrescens) is a species of salamander in the Hynobiidae family. It is endemic to Japan. Its natural habitats are temperate forests, temperate grassland, swamps, freshwater marshes, intermittent freshwater marches, irrigated land, and canals and ditches.
