Talk:Janice Switlo
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I've built this page about Janice Switlo, primarily because in discussions with other Wikipedians I have come across on the subject of Aboriginal Rights, I keep needing to reference materials she has written.
I suspect that it is likely this page will get vandalized at some point -- just so you know Janice, in case you are reading this. If there is something weird on the page, that does not come directly from your own website, check the "history' of the article, so as to see the activity and where the changes are coming from.
As for others who have landed here at my suggestion. I would strongly urge people to read every single one of the articles on Switlo's site, as primers on Aboriginal Law in the context of International Legal realities facing Indigenous People and the Canadian Government.Somena 15:24, 11 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Vanity page
Evidence for my claim that the person who made this article (User:Somena) is a close associate of its subject: "Our Nation has recieved advice from Ms.Switlo for a few years now, and it is because of her instruction..." heqs 12:16, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Rewrite
This article needs a serious rewrite. I just went to the subject's web page, and all of the text in the article is copyrighted by the subject for no commercial reproduction. Thus, we need specific permission from her to use that text, or it needs to be rewritten using the source. —C.Fred (talk) 13:49, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] thanks
I wanted something up as a ref for Janice Switlo, because her work is so vitally important so I grabbed her own words from her own bio on her website, to be absolutley sure that nothing said on the site could be in any way a misrepresentation of who she is or what she does. I'm glad you've done the work in getting her feedback on what she would like to see on the entry, that satisfies the requirements of NPOV for wiki, and also helps people learn more about her work. Thanks. Somena 16:54, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
- That's fine, but what you did is generally considered a copyright violation. And who are you referring to when you say "I'm glad you've done the work in getting her feedback on what she would like to see on the entry"? heqs 06:28, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
