[edit] Grey,Black and White

However, the areas around ...were gradually taken over by ‘the rest’, which included half-castes, Portuguese, Armenians and so on, to become grey areas between Black and White Towns of old Kolkata.

Grey areas between Black and White Towns? Could this be worded better? Kitty Davis 14:56, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

You have to view it in the historical context. I had picked up the wording from the source. It is well worded. - P.K.Niyogi 01:58, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Portuguese?

However, the areas around ...were gradually taken over by ‘the rest’, which included half-castes, Portuguese, Armenians and so on, to become grey areas between Black and White Towns of old Kolkata.

Portuguese in Brtish Calcuta? Are you sure? Don't you mean Indians from Portuguese India? That sounds more likely. I'm tagging it for a source or enlightment. The Ogre 16:08, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

It is Portuguese, not Indians from the Portuguese colonies. The citation is there at the end of the sentence and so I have removed the tag. The Portuguese came to Bengal before the English came and many of them stayed back. Please see Saptagram and Bandel Church for more information. - P.K.Niyogi 01:58, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
Ok. Thanks! The Ogre 13:19, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
