Janine Matthews is a fictional character on the popular ABC soap opera, General Hospital. The character was portrayed by DeLane Matthews from October 2001 until June 2003, and briefly in March 2006.

[edit] Fictional Character History
Janine Matthews came to Port Charles to blackmail Edward Quartermaine. She met Edward in a Las Vegas casino where she worked. She became friendly with him and got him drunk. She took him to a hotel room where she staged a romantic encounter. She took a picture as proof that they had slept together. She went to Port Charles with the picture to blackmail Edward. Edward didn't remember the night, but gave in after Janine showed him the picture. Edward tried everything to keep her quit. Skye Chandler Quartermaine and A.J. Quartermaine wanted control of ELQ. They teamed up with Janine and helped her blackmail him. Edward went to Sonny Corinthos to ask for his help in getting rid of Janine. Sonny agreed to help and thought that Janine might be of good use to him.
Sonny set Janine up in a nice hotel and discovered a connection between her and his father, Mike Corbin. He wanted to know how they knew each other. Janine didn't want to tell Sonny at first but then thought she could get money from him. Sonny had Zander Smith find Courtney Matthews and bring her to him. When she arrived he learned that she was his half-sister and that Mike had run out on them, just like he did to Sonny. Janine told Courtney that her father was dead because she did not want her to know what kind of a person he was. Courtney was very upset with her mother about why she lied to her about her father and about blackmailing Edward. Courtney went to a restaurant where the Quartermaines were eating and announced to them that Edward did not sleep with Janine but that she was blackmailing him. Edward had Janine, Skye and AJ arrested for blackmail.
After Courtney died, Janine waltzed back into town to attend her memorial. Shortly afterwards, she went to Sonny for money. Janine told Sonny that she deserved to get money from him being that he was Courtney's brother. Sonny showed his anger through words and actions. An upset Janine was scared away and hasn't been seen since.
