Janet Wood (now Dawson) is a fictional character on the television sitcom Three's Company played by Joyce DeWitt.
[edit] Introduction
Janet is from Speedway, Indiana. She has a sister named Jenny and a brother whose name was never mentioned. She graduated from college, but her major was never revealed. She is the daughter of Ruth and Roland Wood.
Janet worked in, but now manages, the Arcade Flower Shop. She is very fond of plants, and pots of leafy green are seen all over her apartment.
[edit] Meeting Jack
Janet and Chrissy shared an apartment in Santa Monica, California, and needed a third roommate to pay the rent after their old roommate, Eleanor, moved out. They found Jack Tripper sleeping in their shower after a party they threw. Upon getting to know Jack, who was at the time staying at the local YMCA while in between residences, Janet and Chrissy asked him to be their new roommate. Their landlord, Stanley Roper, was not fond of the idea of a young man sharing an apartment with two young attractive women, especially an apartment that he lived directly underneath! However, Janet, always the clever roommate, came up with the story that Jack was gay to alleviate Stanley's concern about their arrangements. He was allowed to live with them under this guise.
[edit] Personality
Janet is the stereotypical "brunette" of the clan (opposite Chrissy/Cindy/Terri's "blonde" characters). She is intelligent and feisty, and also somewhat strict. Jack and Larry's ploys and teasing never went too far with her, and she outsmarts them on nearly every attempt. However, there are times when her intellectual and logical side falls by the wayside, usually when it comes to matters of the heart. Above and beyond all else, however, she is a deeply loyal friend, with the best interests of those she cares about at heart (despite occasional misunderstanding).
Jack sometimes designs on Chrissy/Cindy/Terri, and flirts with Janet less frequently. However, toward the end of the series, there is much speculation as to whether or not Jack and Janet will wed. In the final episode, she wed art dealer Phillip Dawson.
Janet's measurements are 32-24-32, as per Chrissy's mentioning of this in the episode "And Baby Makes Two".
