Janet Kennedy

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Janet Kennedy (c. 1480 – c. 1545) was a mistress of King James IV of Scotland and the first daughter of John Kennedy, 2nd Lord Kennedy and Lady Elizabeth Gordon, herself daughter of the 1st Earl of Huntly. Through her father, she was a great-great-granddaughter of King Robert III.

Originally the wife or mistress of the formidable Archibald Douglas, 5th Earl of Angus, she attracted the attention of King James IV around 1497.

She bore the King three children, including James Stewart, 1st Earl of Moray. The other two died young.

The King's marriage to Margaret Tudor in 1503 had little effect on their relationship, which seems to have continued until the king's death a few years later.
