Janehu is the sacred thread worn by brahmins, Khatriya, and Vaishya, specially brahmins in India across the chest. It is considered the protector of the body. There are three different postures of wearing Janehu which are interchangiable according to the type of work performed. In normal life it is worn on left shoulder around the neck and right arm. It is wore around the left arm and neck on the right shoulder while doing the rituals for the dead ones or pitar as said.
A sanyasi were the Janehu only around his neck.
It is also a rule to round the Janehu around the right ear while going to toilet to avoid its touch to the excreta or urine or to the excretary organs.
