Jane Tucker

Jane Tucker is a singer, song writer and pianist Born in 1946 best known for being part of the musical trio Rod, Jane and Freddy. Jane was born into a family with an artistic background, her grandmother was an opera singer, her mother a pianist, and her father was Rex Tucker, the drama director for the BBC. She first started to play the piano when she was three, Having been given lessons by her mother. Janes first ambition was to follow in her mothers footsteps and become a concert pianist, but as a teenager she decided she would rather be an actress. This ambition is what lead her to be trained at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, where she continued her piano and singing whilst embarking on a full time drama course. After graduating, she followed the classic route of repertory theatre, touring, TV, and radio, where she met and eventually married Rod Burton.

In 1973, while recording in a studio with husband Rod Burton she saw an advertisement asking for a band which could write music to "entertain and educate kids". Jane and Rod sent in a demo tape containing the song "words" (later to be re-recorded by Rod, Jane and Freddy). Rod and Jane got accepted and paired with Matthew Corbett who also auditioned. Rod Jane and Matt replaced the band "TellTale", in a Revamping of the award winning children's TV series children's Rainbow. Later Matthew would be replaced by Roger Walker and then Freddy Marks creating the trios most famous incarnation Rod, Jane and Freddy.

Towards the end of 1980 the trio were approached by ITV to do their own show, plans went through and The Rod Jane and Freddy show aired its first episode on 15 January 1981. Rod's marriage to Jane hit hard times in 1982, eventually leading to a Divorce, the trio however never let anything show on screen and still continued with the show. In 1985 Jane and fellow trio member Freddy Marks became a couple, and have continued to be together since. Rod Jane and Freddy appeared in both their own show and Rainbow until 1991 when they left their position as musicians on Rainbow to focus solely on The Rod Jane and Freddy Show.

Since leaving the Rod, Jane and Freddy tours Jane has managed to appear in Pantomime every year, She also appeared in numerous other productions including staring as Beatrix Potter in the musical Jemima Puddleduck and Friends at the Unicorn Theatre in London. Jane has made several TV appearances these include being cast as Anne Hathaway in Shakespeare’s England. In recent years Jane has kept hard at work behind the screen, writing many songs and musical pieces for several stage shows including Wizadora and Playdays. More recently Jane has provided voiceovers for Disneyland and BBC Schools. In 2007 Jane played Fairy Rainbow in 'Jack and the Beanstalk' at The Riverfront in Newport. Jane is currently composing a ballet, and on June 29th, that same year, she appeared at Nottingham University's Student Union, singing along to several tracks by Rod, Jane and Freddy.

Jane writes and composes at her London home, she loves going to the gym to keep up her passion for fitness and health, something she wishes her long time partner Freddy would do more often. When she's not writing or working out she loves to relax and listen to Queen and classical music. She also loves going to the theatre.[1]

Jane will be appearing in Pantomime again this year in Cinderella at The Hall For Cornwall in Truro from 12th Dec 2008 until 4th Jan 2009.
