Jane Perlez is a journalist who has been the New York Times correspondent in Africa, Eastern Europe and Indonesia. She was also the paper's chief diplomatic correspondent from 1999-2001. She is currently reporting from Pakistan.

An Australian, Ms. Perlez moved to New York in the 1970s, and worked for The New York Post, The New York Daily News, and the Soho Weekly News, before joining the New York Times. At the Times, she has been posted to Africa, where she broke stories, and was nominated for the Pulitzer for her coverage of Somalia; Poland, Austria, and Indonesia. She was the paper's chief diplomatic correspondent from 1999-2001. She was a Pulitzer nominee in 1993 for her coverage of Somalia.
