Jane Lomax-Smith

The Hon Dr. Jane Lomax-Smith BSc, MBBS, PhD, FRCPA, MP, Australian politician, is the Minister for Education and Children's Services and Minister for Tourism in South Australia and has been the member for the state seat of Adelaide since 2002. She is a member of the Australian Labor Party.
Dr Jane Lomax-Smith is also the Minister for the City of Adelaide, a new ministerial position created after the landslide election of the Labor Party in the 2006 election in which her margin increased from 1% to 10.2%.
Lomax-Smith was the Lord Mayor of Adelaide from 1997 to 2000. Before entering politics, she was a clinical pathologist, medical researcher and teacher.
She was born in the United Kingdom, but later immigrated to Australia. In addition to her Medical Degree, Jane received her Ph.D. from the University of Adelaide in 1986. She is married with two children and still lives within the city limits of Adelaide.
