Jan van Aartsen

Johannes ("Jan") van Aartsen (born September 15, 1909 in Amsterdam – died April 2, 1992 in Vlissingen), was a Dutch politician.

Van Aartsen was a lawyer in The Hague and a member of the Anti Revolutionary Party. In November 1958 he became minister of transportation and water management of the Netherlands at the end of the fourth cabinet Drees, following the resignation of Jacob Algera. From 1959 to 1963 he was minister of housing and construction industry in the cabinet de Quay, returning to the transportation and water management post under Victor Marijnen until 1965. After that he was the Queen's Commissioner (Governor) of the Province of Zeeland until 1974.

He was the father of Jozias van Aartsen, who would become foreign minister of the Netherlands in 1998.
