Jan Crouch (born Janice Wendell Bethany, 1937) is the co-founder, vice-president and director of programming of the Trinity Broadcasting Network, or TBN, the world's largest Christian television network. She is the daughter of an Assemblies of God pastor. Her father's family was originally of Jewish heritage but later became Christian. She married her husband Paul Crouch in 1958.
The Chronicle of Philanthropy in 2004 reported Crouch's annual personal income as $361,000.[citation needed] According to Charity Navigator, TBN paid her $361,000 in 2004.[1] Her husband earned $419,000, son Paul F. Crouch Jr. earned $105,803, and TBN has a rating of two out of four stars.[2] However, Crouch has produced products for TBN such as videos that account for a portion of her income. Jan Crouch counts many celebrities as her personal friends including soap opera hunk Austin Peck.
She is the founder of the Smile of a Child Network and has built a hospital in Haiti for the underprivileged. She regularly visits underprivileged countries and distributes free toys and school supplies to needy children.[citation needed] She has indicated that she never takes animal toys to Haiti because the Haitian children are fearful of them and associate them with Voodoo and black magic. Jan Crouch is an advocate for speaking in tongues. She has demonstrated tongue speaking on the Trinity Broadcasting Network.
In May 2003, TBN announced that Jan Crouch had been diagnosed with colon cancer. After having lymphatic surgery, her cancer went into remission.[3]
