[edit] Capitalization of maze prozedure in atrial fibrillation
This is a minor point, but because "maze" isn't a proper noun, it shouldn't be capitalized. It would be akin to capitalizing "clamp" in "Kocher clamp." Andrew73 18:53, 26 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Maze
I wasn't aware that you were the author of the maze procedure-related content on atrial fibrillation. I have recently done some significant work on the AF page, and I was wondering if you had any opinions on the present state of the article. I was also hoping you might add some more references to the content that you added. JFW | T@lk 14:15, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, I originated the page. I'm an electrophysiologist interested in catheter ablation and surgery for atrial fibrillation. It's intended to be a page regarding minimally invasive surgery for AF but it was unfortunately renamed to "maze" by a reader who felt the focus was on the Maze procedure (which I'd mentioned for historical purposes only). A year later he and I agree that the name should revert back to "minimaze" and he's put a request in to an administrator to do so. The Maze procedure probably deserves its own page.
- Regarding your work on the atrial fibrillation page, preliminarily I think it's excellent. I will need to go through it more carefully as time allows. I would be happy to add references regarding both maze and minimaze. I also have a reference or two regarding catheter ablation of AF that I will add (the Cappato paper and the 2007 Expert Consensus Statement in particular) jamesmcclelland (talk) 23:00, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
Your work is highly appreciated. We have a couple of cardiology-oriented contributors (Ksheka (talk · contribs) and MoodyGroove (talk · contribs)), but with your interest in EPS you are uniquely qualified to look at the related content.
Given that the Maze procedure is substantially different from Minimaze, you may be right that the subjects deserve their own pages, even if one is the derivative of the other. I have the niggling feeling that these procedures are vastly underused in the UK. They certainly don't occupy an important place in the NICE guidelines. JFW | T@lk 23:23, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
Just added some to the AF page regarding efficacy of catheter ablation of AF using the recent Expert Consensus document.jamesmcclelland (talk) 19:53, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
