[edit] Using "If" to redirect criticism
A tag has been placed on Using "If" to redirect criticism, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}}
to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Realkyhick 20:19, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] AfD nomination of It takes a lot of money to look this cheap
It takes a lot of money to look this cheap, an article you created, has been nominated for deletion. We appreciate your contributions. Please see our guideline on notability. Additionally, calling for Irishguy to be desysopped seems entirely disproportionate to any annoyance you may feel at your non-notable articles being deleted. Please see our guide to conflict resolution for a better way to proceed. --John 19:22, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
I would like to reiterate that I am not annoyed at Irishguy deleting my article. I am annoyed that he sidesteps questions about reasons for deletion and is condescending to the askers. Jameseyx 19:32, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
- That's fine. Why not set an example of the sort of courtesy and collegiality you think he ought to aspire to? I think if you look at the links I sent you the reasons for his deletion will become clear to you. --John 19:33, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
The issue I have with Irishguy is not because he was sore with me, it is the majority of his talk page archives. While I understand that some of the articles he may have deleted did not belong in Wikipedia, Wikipedia is a resource for information, and I feel that he is deleting articles simply because he himself has not heard of the subject. Wikipedia is not just for "notable" persons because "notable" means that a large amount of people have interest in the subject and that the persons in the article have been recognized to some extent. One of the reasons most students in my school turn to Wikipedia instead of a printed encyclopedia is because Wikipedia encompasses a much larger range of subjects. By removing articles that someone thinks are not notable, they are destroying the reasons that Wikipedia is so great. --Jameseyx 19:46, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
- Actually, that is exactly what Wikipedia is for. Without notability and importance, a subject doesn't belong in an encyclopedia. IrishGuy talk 22:28, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
Exactly who defines notability and importance? Does the fact that I deem a Japanese footballer non notable mean that he does not deserve an article in Wikipedia? Or is that left up to the admins? Which, by the way, there are less than 1,300. There are over 5 million registered users. So is the definition of notability left up to less than 1,300 people deciding for 5 million users and countless millions more readers? Something seems a little skewed to me. Jameseyx 22:41, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
- You do realize there are stated guidelines for notability, right? WP:NOTE, WP:BIO, WP:BAND, etc. These are the basis, not the personal opinions of users. IrishGuy talk 23:20, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Take it easy
Hi there. It seems like you are unhappy with some things going on here, such as with the Dolly Parton quote. Sometimes small concepts do not get their own article, and it is better to have them as part if a bigger article. Pardon the pun. ;-) In any case, do not get angry, and just keep making (constructive) edits. Bearian 19:15, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
