[edit] In need of help on another Wikimedia project

Hello,

SemperBlotto has blocked my IP address on WIKTIONARY because s/he percieved my edit to the "Aggression" article was percieved to be vandalism. I am slightly frustrated because s/he gave no warnings, as the policy gives in WIKIPEDIA (I was not able to locate such policies in Wiktionary). I tried to create an account, but I am not privilaged to do so. I was not aware that I hadn't created an account with Wiktionary (I have done so with many other Wikimedia projects, and it is difficult to keep up with where I have and haven't created an account). My IP address is 121.219.239.177

I also find it extremely difficult to contact Wiktionary to appeal to this block, as when I try to edit, I am not allowed, and when I try to create an account to edit, I am not allowed. Which brings me here. I thought that perhaps a Wikipedia Administrator may also be a Wiktionary Administrator who would be able to remove the block.

Cheers ~ James Kanjo (talk) 06:01, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

I'll find out for you. PeterSymonds | talk 16:55, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
I;ve left a note on the SemperBlotto's talk page and asked him to review the block. I'm not a contributor to Wiktionary, and though your contributions look like good faith edits, the definition of vandalism might be different on the other wikis. I'll let you know of his reply when it comes (see diff of request). PeterSymonds | talk 17:09, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
Hello, I'm Atelaes, an admin from Wiktionary. SemperBlotto seems to have gone for the day, so I'll field the answer to this. Basically, what you did wrong was to flout (probably unknowingly) a couple of core policies here at Wiktionary. First, you replaced a good page with a redirect (we don't do redirects here), and then moved the information to the wrong spelling (the German word is capitalized). Wiktionary has a great deal less patience for incorrect edits (even if well intentioned), and the admins there are a bit more brisk in our patrolling and blocking methods than is generally seen on Wikipedia. A number of bad edits in a row there generally results in a short block, with no warning (and account creation is generally blocked as well). However, your block is only for a day, so it looks like it expires less than three hours from now. I have left our standard welcome on the IP talk page. You may want to read them, especially the bit about ELE; should help avoid stuff like this from happening in the future. Also, a username will sometimes dull the trigger finger of an admin. Hope that helps. Atelaes (talk) 18:35, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

Taken from SemperBlotto's reply:

He converted the German word Aggression into a redirect to the English word, then added the German definition to the lowercase form. We haven't as many sysops as Wikipedia and don't go in for warnings much - short blocks serve as warnings.SemperBlotto 18:49, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
