[edit] Welcome

Welcome!

Hello, James Fryer, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome!

Sorry, but as you probably guessed, the above is mere boilerplate. This, however, is not. Thank you for your work on Jamaica Farewell. If you'd like any help with anything, do please ask -- though I must quickly qualify that by adding that my time for WP will be very limited for the next couple of months. Anyway, all the best here! -- Hoary 10:48, 30 November 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the kind welcome, I'm not completely new having previously posted as 217.41.60.242 but just decided to set up a proper account. James Fryer 11:17, 30 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Music of Dominica

Thanks for the pointer at Talk:Music of Dominica. Are you Dominican? If so, we could really use a photo or two at that article -- doesn't have to be remarkable, but a photo of a folk performer, or even just a local performance venue would help a lot. (Or, of course, a photo from Carnival, but it's too late for that until next year unless you have an old photo already) Anyway, I've been working on all the music of the Lesser Antilles articles, hoping to make a WP:FT, so any help you could provide would be most appreciated. (In case you care, the ones I can find virtually no info about are music of Anguilla, music of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and, to a lesser degree, music of Saint Kitts and Nevis). Tuf-Kat

No I'm not Dominican, I visited several times in the 90s and this sparked my interest in calypso, although unfortunately I am not that familiar with the music of the smaller islands. Are you familiar with the work of Lennox Honeychurch who has written various books on Dominica ("The Story of Dominica" being the most useful I think). Also this site http://www.avirtualdominica.com/home.cfm has Carnival images, the webmaster there would probably allow some to be used. I'll see if I can find any info about the other islands which will help. As an aside, the best performers I saw in Dominica were Mighty Rabbit, who had a brilliant song on Saddam, and Young Bull who sang a soca "Chew My Pocket". James Fryer 10:03, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Roger Woddis

A tag has been placed on Roger Woddis, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable. If you can indicate why Roger Woddis is really notable, you can contest the tagging. To do this, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and leave a note on Talk:Roger Woddis, explaining how Roger Woddis is notable. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself.

Please read the criteria for speedy deletion (specifically, article #7) and our general biography criteria. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. (aeropagitica) 22:16, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

When you add a hangon tag, don't delete the speedy delete tag. I have readded it. Natalie 22:47, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
My mistake! I assumed you had because you had added "hangon", and it's a common mistake to accidently blank the speedy tag. Just so you know, Wikipedia gets a lot of bogus articles created, and tries to get those articles off as soon as possible, which is probably why it was deleted the first time. A lot of kids write articles about their friends, enemies, or made up people, so new page patrollers are generally very vigilant. To keep the article from being deleted immediately, add things that assert notability in the first edit. Also, if it's going to take you a while (like a 1/2 hour or so) to create an article, you can use the "inuse" template. Just make sure you don't leave the template up for too long.
