[edit] Re: MFD notice on your user page
Please don't remove the MfD notice while the discussion is open. If the user page is kept, it'll be removed by the closing admin. Thank you. --wwwwolf (barks/growls) 09:33, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
This is, oh, third warning - please do not remove the MfD notice on User:James Albert Collins. If you keep removing it, I'll go and protect the page from editing until MfD is concluded; some admins would consider that a grounds for block. Removing the notice accomplishes nothing; if you really want the page to be kept, I suggest you voice your concerns and rationale for keeping the page in Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:James Albert Collins while the discussion is open. I also suggest that the best way to keep the page is that you rewrite the page to only have information relevant to your own Wikipedia editing; that is what the User pages are used for. --wwwwolf (barks/growls) 15:14, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
Fine - since you don't seem to want to keep the MfD notice in the page, I've restored and protected it until the end of the MfD discussion. --wwwwolf (barks/growls) 08:02, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Let me explain the situation again
Basically, the situation is this: Your user page will probably face deletion. If we come to that conclusion in the deletion discussion, it doesn't matter where you post the page - it will be deleted anyway. Using your user talk page to host it is inappropriate; this page is meant for messages to you.
I'd definitely suggest starting to communicate. You're not exactly giving the best cooperative image of yourself by reposting the page and not commenting on the discussion regarding it or acknowledging you've understood these messages. --wwwwolf (barks/growls) 07:47, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
So, how do i comment or communicate with you? I have no idea how to use this. Am i supposed to be adding this too this part? —Preceding unsigned comment added by James Albert Collins (talk • contribs)
Yup. Discussion pages are used like all other pages. (Preferably, you should also sign your posts; you can do that by pressing the signature button on edit tool bar, or adding ~~~~ - four tildes - after your comment.) I can see you're somewhat confused by all these very complex technological marvels of ours, but that's okay, everyone else probably is at first. =)
So now: Have you read and understood the big issues you were originally informed about, and what are explained as deletion rationale in the deletion discussion?
If you haven't, please read them again. If you have any comments on this matter, please voice them in the deletion discussion.
Also, have you understood my original comments listed above?
We might be getting somewhere if you would read the user page guideline and plan your page according to that. =) --wwwwolf (barks/growls) 10:13, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
Right ok, read both of them, but I'm still rather confused. So my userpage is styled as an artical, and is not appropiate? If I wanted to create a proper artical about myself and place it in the mainstream wikipedia how would I do this? And what changes would I need to make to my userpage to make it acceptable? :] JiiM 11:21, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
Yeah - if you had an user page that says "Hi, I'm James, I'm a tenor, and here's a list of articles I'm working on improving", no one would have a problem with that; as it is, having an article in place of userspace could be seen self-promotional. Having an article-like userpage is not strictly forbidden as such but, as the others have indicated, marking it with the userpage disclaimer (i.e. adding {{userpage}} template) is extremely couraged in this case; also, having article-like userpages is not exactly the best use of userspace anyway, as it could easily be interpreted as being merely promotional in nature. It is technically possible for you to create an article about yourself (instead of just an userpage), but there are specific, very strict guidelines for that (see autobiography guidelines): you have to be extremely careful to follow all Wikipedia's guidelines, to maintain neutrality and avoid conflicts of interest. Some say, as a rule of thumb, "at very least don't create an article about yourself, let someone else do that". --wwwwolf (barks/growls) 14:37, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
...and it seems like Mike Rosoft unprotected the page in question, and I'd apologise for not doing that earlier - you're free to edit the page, and if you do change the page to conform to the user page guidelines, I'm fairly sure we could conclude the deletion discussion on positive note, too. --wwwwolf (barks/growls) 16:19, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
I have changed my userpage, but I'm not sure if it's still ok? I would like to add an artical about myself. If it doesn't work out then no harm will be done right? Sorry if I sound arrogent (I'm also not a very good speller too :[ )I dont mean to be aggrogent I just don't fully understand the guidlines.
How do I create an artical about myself? JiiM 20:02, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
- Well, the first thing: Wikipedia's articles are written in a neutral tone. It is logical to assume that one might be a little biased in writing about oneself. Hence, Wikipedia discourages people from writing their own articles. If you do so, you must be very careful to be fair.
- In order for your article to exist here, you must meet the requirements of WP:BIO. An encyclopedia is not a home for an article on every person who has ever lived -- people written about here must be notable. This means that they must have been written about in reliable, independent sources, like newspapers, magazines, academic papers, etc. In general, webpages are not reliable sources, by the way. Things you've written about yourself are not reliable because they are not independent -- the same bias problem as above. Best wishes, Xoloz 02:02, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] MfD Result Notice
Given your revisions, I have closed the MfD on your userpage as a "Keep". Best wishes, Xoloz 02:02, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. What do you have to click on to begin creating an artical page? Would you please send me a link on here so as I know how to create articals because I have been trying for days now and have not found the right place to do it in. Many thanks :] JiiM 12:42, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/James A. Collins
It now seems clear that you had intended to page to be created as an article, not as a user page; I am afraid I am nominating it for deletion due to insufficient notability and conflict of interest. Feel free to comment at its deletion discussion/vote page. Regards, Mike Rosoft 21:20, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
- Please stop removing the deletion notice from he article, logged in under your account or otherwise. You have been previously told that such removal a) is against the policies, b) will be immediately reverted, and c) won't stop the article from being deleted anyway; so you have no excuse. This is your final warning; if the deletion notice is removed from the article once again, you will be blocked from editing for vandalism and disruption. - Mike Rosoft 23:10, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Advice
A few words of advice. I am sorry you have been having some difficulties at Wikipedia. To avoid this let me steer you away from the pitfalls: 1. Please do stop trying to add an article about yourself. Although I am sure you are a talented singer, it is not acceptable to have an article on a young singer who is just starting out and is not well known, has not DVDs etc and has only sung locally. If I wanted to have an article about myself I would not add one as I know it would be deleted. 2. Do contribute to other articles on Wikipedia. I am sure there are several areas in which you are interested and you can start or add to these articles. 3. Have fun. Do contact me at any time for advice if you need any on my userpage.--File Éireann 18:50, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
Before you do any more editing, might I suggest working your way through the advice at Wikipedia:Introduction. --File Éireann 18:56, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
