(nods) Thanks for slapping those semi-protections on. Sad it needs to be done, but the anon IPs are coming out of the woodwork.  RGTraynor  17:13, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Guess who's back

  • I wonder if he thinks he's actually fooling anyone? You'd think after all this time he'd come up with a new MO for his revert wars... -- Chabuk T • C ] 01:51, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
  • It's sad really. It least it takes less effort to verify and block his socks than it takes him to create them. -- JamesTeterenko 15:39, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
  • Good to see other people on the List of users Corey Bryant has it in for, looks like me and you Teterenko really rankled him good. Oh and welcome back! Hope you enjoyed your wiki-break. Croat Canuck talk 00:35, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Hello WikiProject Ice Hockey/Participant

I am an advisor to the National Hockey League. With your help over the next few months I plan to review and correct any information on wikipedia relating to the National Hockey League, its franchises, players, executives and partership organisations. I am here to provide you with information. Your work is appreciated. --NHLsource 18:07, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:WikiProject Ice Hockey/Featured topic Drive

Hi, as you may or may not know, some of us at WP:HOCKEY have banded together and are trying to get the various NHL Trophy pages to FT status. It is a big job and if you would be willing to offer any assistance, it would be most appreciated. You can find out more here. Thanks for the time, Scorpion0422 21:33, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Prod's

You might want to look where it mentions that they have to play 5 seasons or 100 games in a high level minor league like the AHL or ECHL. That in order to qualify if they have only played in the UHL/CHL they have to have won a major award etc. Which as far as I can find none of those 3 have. The whole purpose of these requirements were to avoid articles being created for exactly this sort of player who barely even made it to the ECHL. If I recall correctly some people didn't even want the ECHL included.--Djsasso 18:36, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

Since these have now been AFD'ed, I'll take the discussion there. -- JamesTeterenko 19:27, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Removed prod for Jessica Moore

Few reasons for this. First, erotic horror and porn are completely different. Failing to meet WP:PORNBIO is as irrelevant as failing WP:PROF if you aren't one. Subject needs to meet general or Entertainers. She's 1/2 way to general with one independent source. Second, the article was less than 8 hours old, so it's a bit quick to go for a prod on something with a legitimate claim for notability. I tagged it notability, hopefully the article creator will improve it from here. You said the only source was IMDB, but the only thing in IMDB that appears here is her real name and DOB. Horrorshowj 09:03, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

That's fair. Thanks for letting me know and giving your justification. I did realize that she was half porn and half horror. However, I used the porn guideline because it was more specific and detailed than the WP:BIO entry on Entertainers. I should have acknowledged her non-porn in my rationale. I didn't realize that the article was just created, but I do still believe that she is not notable. I was tagging articles that I came across that were related to Thomas Fisher, which was already deemed not notable. They both acted in Dead Rain. I did do a little research, and I could not find anything which would suggest that she would meet any notability guideline in Wikipedia. Since it was a new article creation and my prod nomination was weak, I'll give a bit of time for someone to assert the notability and provide reliable sources. -- JamesTeterenko 14:43, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Duncan Mackay

Good catch on this one. I was thinking it was a copyvio when I discovered it, but I wasn't quite sure how to handle it. I just cleaned up what was there and assumed someone else would spot it. Little did I know it actually should have been redirected to an already-existing article! Again, good catch. Way to keep on top of things. :) Skudrafan1 23:51, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. The copyvio wasn't too hard to find. I Googled a suspicious phrase, and found it right away. Since he was clearly notable, I figured I would write a quick stub. Once I had the stub partially written I realized he was in the HHOF. So, I knew that an article had to exist. It probably took me a bit too much effort to get to that point, but I got it. -- JamesTeterenko 00:14, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
Sorry, didn't realize he would have been under Mickey Mackay. So, what your saying for the next time I make an article I can use text from a book but I have to re-arrange and add words to sentences?--Mister Hockey 05:32, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
No problem about the article title. It took me a while to notice that it was a duplicate, and I have been editing on Wikipedia for years. Also, Skudrafan is another long time editor and didn't notice it either (see above). The beauty of a wiki is that you can continue to improve it over time and other people find ways of making your work better. In terms of using text from a book, you must write it in your own words. When you use a book for information, you have to be careful not to take any full sentences out of it. One trick that I use when writing an article is to make point form notes of the facts that I want to include. Then, I put the sources away and combine the point form notes into sentences and paragraphs. This way, everything comes out in my own words. I'll admit that it has been a while since I have created an article of substantial length, but it does get easier as you get more practice doing it. -- JamesTeterenko 15:23, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Louis Riel

Thank you for your additions on this article to help bring it to feature article status. Do you know of other editors who worked on this article, to let them know....

Louis Riel has been nominated for a featured article review. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks. Please leave your comments and help us to return the article to featured quality. If concerns are not addressed during the review period, articles are moved onto the Featured Article Removal Candidates list for a further period, where editors may declare "Keep" or "Remove" the article from featured status. New recognized content

By Maxim

Especially due to the featured topic drive, there have been many new featured lists promoted concerning NHL awards. Here's the full list of all the 13 FL's promoted since the last newsletter.[1][2]

  1. Featured article Hart Memorial Trophy
  2. Featured article James Norris Memorial Trophy
  3. Featured article Vezina Trophy
  4. Featured article Conn Smythe Trophy
  5. Featured article Frank J. Selke Trophy
  6. Featured article Lady Byng Memorial Trophy
  7. Featured article Lester B. Pearson Award
  8. Featured article Calder Memorial Trophy
  9. Featured article Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy
  10. Featured article King Clancy Memorial Trophy
  11. Featured article Jack Adams Award
  12. Featured article Presidents' Trophy
  13. Featured article List of Calgary Flames players

There have been no new good articles or featured articles. Maurice 'Rocket' Richard Trophy has been given A-Class status due to multiple issues raised at FLC.

  1. ^ The last one, List of Calgary Flames players, is the only one not associated with the featured topic drive.
  2. ^ At the time of publishing, there were 5 lists at WP:FLC and 2 lists in the "Holding cell", as there's been an accepted guideline to not put more that 5 trophy lists at the same time to, "compensate for the sanity of the reviewers".

Featured Topic Drive

By Maxim

Started by User:Scorpion0422, the aim of this drive is to make NHL awards a featured topic. A featured topic is basically a set of very high quality articles (good articles and featured articles/lists). In this case, the topic is NHL awards. Many users have helped, including Scorpion0422, Resolute, Serte, Hasek is the best, Maxim, Croat Canuck, Spike Wilbury, FutureNJGov, and T Rex/Dinosaur puppy. The progress has been very good; there are 12 featured lists promoted, and 2 good articles:

  1. Featured article Hart Memorial Trophy (Scorpion)
  2. Featured article James Norris Memorial Trophy (Scorpion)
  3. Featured article Vezina Trophy (Scorpion)
  4. Featured article Conn Smythe Trophy (Serte)
  5. Featured article Frank J. Selke Trophy (FutureNJGov)
  6. Featured article Lady Byng Memorial Trophy (Scorpion)
  7. Featured article Lester B. Pearson Award (Scorpion)
  8. Featured article Calder Memorial Trophy (Croat Canuck)
  9. Featured article Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy (Maxim)
  10. Featured article King Clancy Memorial Trophy (Maxim)
  11. Featured article Jack Adams Award (Maxim)
  12. Featured article Presidents' Trophy (Scorpion)
  13. Good article Stanley Cup (Earlier collaboration, very many involved)
  14. Good article Traditions and anecdotes associated with the Stanley Cup (Maxim)

Check the project page if you are interested in helping out. Although it's closer to being done than not, there's still work to be done. The next topic that might be tackled is Stanley Cup, but this remains purely speculative and in discussion.

[edit] Re: Canadian spelling

I stand corrected. Cheers! ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 16:28, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the message, and the link. I suppose I just assumed (I know, almost always a risky proposition) that Canadian spelling was identical to the Brits. My error. Of course, if that is the biggest mistake I make this week, I'll be doing well. Cheers! ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 22:07, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] VaughanWatch

I think he may be back. I believe that user:50Goals is a sock, as he made an edit to the IHHOF page in which he added an "expand" template, then added excess details about the IHHOF to Stanley Cup. -- Scorpion0422 04:30, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

OK, I'll watch out for him. -- JamesTeterenko 14:42, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Joe Sakic pictures

Just wanted to comment on the Joe Sakic pictures - they look great, it's the new jersey, and from yesterday's game, to boot! Very nice! --SesameBallTalk 05:11, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Picture Question

I have been going through a lot of junior teams, and many of them have logos that have been flagged on their talk pages for not having the full template filled out for fair use. If I go through and update them, can I remove that note, or is it something that needs to be processed somehow? Thanks! Leafschik1967 (talk) 16:46, 17 November 2007 (UTC)

If you have addressed the concern noted, then you can just remove the tag. There is nothing more that needs to be done. If you missed something, someone will point it out. -- JamesTeterenko (talk) 02:49, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
Thank you! Leafschik1967 (talk) 20:58, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Franz Josef Strauß

Might I ask you to take a look at the new discussion going on at Franz Josef Strauß? Yes, it is an ancient topic (the use of ß on en-wiki), but this is one of the most prominent articles in which this issue is of significance. Given your experience, your input would be very much appreciated. Unschool (talk) 01:39, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Pictures

Hey, I'm inquiring about my request a few months ago for photos from the Flames-Rangers game that took place last week. I've gotten a few of these since then, but just wondering if you remembered and got any shots that would be worth using on here? IrisKawling (talk) 18:07, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Cool thanks :) IrisKawling (talk) 06:15, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
I notice you got around to uploading them, they took fantastic.

[edit] AfD nomination of Jason Smith (actor)

I have nominated Jason Smith (actor), an article you created, for deletion. I do not feel that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jason Smith (actor). WikiProject Ice Hockey Newsletter

Dear JamesTeterenko! You are receiving as you are a member of WikiProject Ice Hockey There's been many more new things going on at WP:HOCKEY, and I think this will help you to stay informed. Since the last newsletter sent out in October, there have been many new changes. I'm hoping to make this newsletter a bit more regular; Kaiser matias and Skudrafan1 asked for a new issue a week ago, but sadly, I've been a bit lazy and committed to other things hence this other delay. --Maxim(talk)

New recognized content

Wayne Gretzky; this picture is featured

By Maxim
There has been numerous new recognized content, so much that it's too time-consuming to sift through the "trophy cases" on WP:HOCKEY. Some interesting achievements:

Task forces

By Maxim

There was a new taskforce created within the WikiProject to deal with topics related to the Boston Bruins. It was originally founded as a separate WikiProject, but was quickly turned into a taskforce within WikiProject Ice Hockey. The list of participants is located here. Located at WP:BRUINS, the taskforce's goals are to make Boston Bruins and Bobby Orr featured articles. Good luck!

edit

New Administrators

By Maxim
Since October, there have been three new admins promoted within the project:

A previously admin-only feature has been made available for all users. The rollback feature allows a user to quickly revert vandalism with one click. If you wish to have rollback, contact an active admin or post a request to WP:RFR.

Featured Topic Drive

By Maxim

The original featured topic drive, initiated by Scorpion0422, has concluded succesfully. National Hockey League awards is now a featured topic, with 24 articles in total. Of them, 20 are featured lists, one is a featured article, and the other three are trophy articles that were too short to become featured lists. Eight users signed up to help out, shown here. The next Featured Topic hasn't been decided upon, and the ideas and organization for it fell apart. If you have any ideas, don't hesitate to share them at WT:HOCKEY.

edit

Notes

  • More editors are needed to help out with the newsletter. Maxim doesn't have an infinite nor perfect supply of ideas, and thus he might omit some interesting news.
  • Portal:Ice hockey is being considered for featured status. Feel free to nominate features at Portal:Ice hockey/Suggestions.
  • Should Chris Pronger have been suspended for more than eight games for stomping on Ryan Kesler? Vote here!

[edit] Tom Welch

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Tom Welch, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Tom Welch.
