[edit] New user

If anyone can send me any advice about how to make best use of the site, that will be great. --JamesJJames (talk) 07:24, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Articles for deletion

I've been trying out this page which is interesting. I just picked up a few items that caught my eye, looked into the articles and made a comment as I thought fit. If anyone can give me any pointers on using the page, I'd appreciate that. Meanwhile, I'll carry on using it when I have time. --JamesJJames (talk) 08:24, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Golden Age of Cricket

JamesJJames, I am pleased that you've withdrawn the nomination; I was just about to throw in a strong keep !vote, on the basis of the term being widely used and known. But the point is now moot, so I probably shan't bother.

I see you've nominated a few cricket related articles for deletion: can I ask that you participate at WT:CRIC where the Wikipedia cricket community tends to discuss such concerns before going to AfD. I assure you that you'll find then a friendly and helpful bunch. One other point, when you nominate an cricket related article for deletion, can you post an entry at Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Cricket. This is not about vote stacking, its about getting maximum input from those who can contribute most and best to a cricket deletion discussion. If you need any help, sing out. —Moondyne click! 06:27, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Well, left a !vote there for good order's sake. —Moondyne click! 11:42, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
I reinstated the text you removed. You are fairly new here so I suggest you read WP:TPG - we rarely or never edit other user's comments. My question regarding ACS had nothing to do with AGF, it was a simple ponder. But the fact you felt the need to remove my comments only adds to my concern. James, we come here to build the encyclopaedia, not to knock the work of others that have come beforehand. You said here [1] "It is not up to other people to correct your spelling, grammar, incorrect links, etc." Thats not quite right. We are a wiki, and people do come from behind to tidy the work of others. That is the way probably 95% of the project works. Very few articles are created without future changes. —Moondyne click! 00:27, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
No problems. I removed it and am happy to admit I'm probably seeing shadows-the history of ACS associated topics in Wikipedia has often had a bumpy ride. Forgive me and have a nice day. —Moondyne click! 11:02, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
Much appreciated. Many thanks. Sorry I have not responded sooner but have been unavailable for WP due to some personal business. A nice day to yourself, too. --JamesJJames (talk) 12:57, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Fixed outing situation

I have removed the edits related to this incident from the history of this page. Contributors should be advised that attempted outing of editors (especially those one is in a dispute with!) is considered harassment on Wikipedia, and will most likely result in an indefinite block from editing. James, you may wish to apply for oversight (by e-mail) so the offending edits can be purged from the database (I've merely deleted them so only admins can see them). Orderinchaos 18:43, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

I can only delete diffs where there's actual harassment (it's a fairly extreme and major step) - if someone is merely posting content related stuff that you do not wish to receive, you are free to blank it yourself, per WP:BLANKING. Orderinchaos 08:37, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
Good advice that I shall follow whenever I encounter trolls in future. --JamesJJames (talk) 06:30, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Moving on

I just thought it was unnecessary to talk about agendas on the ACS page. The only changes in 10 months were a couple of lines on the Woodcock incident which is still possibly worthy of note as it did make the national press and TV at the time, and indicated the entrenched (and ill informed) views that existed. I take your point that things about variations belong mainly on that page but the genesis if you will, was the publication of the match guide in c1979. We have 4 major publication - Cricketarchive, ACS Yearbook, Wisden and Playfair, showing 4 sets of stats. This is hardly any different from the days of Roberts, Webber and Sir Home Gordon. Incidentally your friend Blackjack is worried about the reference to the ACS/ECB/ICC decision over List A. It is in the Journal as an official press release. Look in that Journal and see the provenance of the statement. I don't think the statement has seen the light of day elsewhere I'm afraid.
A good but not very encyclopaedic article on ACS written by a Northern Committee member some time ago was removed summarily. It can probably be accessed. I didn't write it! Incidentally I don't have a clue who Mountlaurel is, or the Fiddler of whatever.Fieldgoalunit (talk) 22:31, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
