I am a doctoral student in the history department at the University of California, Santa Barbara with a master's degree from the University of Washington (2006). At a basic level, I am primarily interested in the Soviet system: its pan-European context, its ideology, the influences of its successes and failures on states throughout the world (and vice versa), and particularly, its collapse. My dissertation (in progress) looks at the mobilization of Moldovan countermovement conservatives during the collapse of the Soviet Union.
I am married and enjoy hunting edible mushrooms. I am fanatic about opera.
