[edit] Dates of birth and death

According to an online biography by Ferenc M. Szasz, which is a chapter in the book Atomic West, Tuck was born in Manchester, England on January 9, 1910, received the OBE in 1943 and is deceased, although a date of death is not given in that article. I was unable to find an obituary in the New York Times archives. Bill Jefferys (talk) 17:45, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

Here is the google books link to the Szasz biography. Bill Jefferys (talk) 17:49, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

I have written to the Los Alamos National Laboratories public relations unit, in an attempt to determine Tuck's date of death. Bill Jefferys (talk) 22:38, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

I received a link to an article in the Los Alamos National Laboratories archives that gives some additional information about Tuck here Bill Jefferys (talk) 04:25, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Order of the British Empire

Neither of the sources I have tracked down mention a knighthood for Tuck; both mention that he received the Order of the British Empire.Bill Jefferys (talk) 00:13, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] CV and autobiographical sketch

I have obtained a short (declassified) CV and autobiographical sketch from an archivist at Los Alamos National Laboratory; I have added it to the references. Although this document is not widely available in libraries, it can be obtained upon request from LANL, and as a primary document written by Tuck ought to be included in the references.

It is clear from the CV that Tuck was never knighted, which confirms my earlier inability to find anything about a knighthood. The only honor listed in this 1974 document is the OBE, received during or shortly after World War II. Professor Szasz's entry in The Atomic West indicated that the OBE was awarded in 1943; however, that date is inconsistent with the primary document I have, which lists 1945 in the CV section but 1944 in the biographical section. Thus, the date of the OBE is uncertain, but almost certainly not in 1943. I have consulted with Professor Szasz, who concurs with this conclusion. Therefore I have removed the 1943 date from the Wiki article and left it out entirely. If anyone has a clever idea please feel free to implement it. Bill Jefferys (talk) 19:20, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

I have been given permission to place the Tuck CV on my website and have done so. Bill Jefferys (talk) 21:52, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

I've added the link to the Tuck memo (CV) above. Bill Jefferys (talk) 03:00, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
