It is my understanding that King studied with Oren Brown, who helped him transition to tenor.

Actually, King studied for a short time with Brown, and frequently suggested that any singer could benefit from a period of study with him. However, the teacher he credited in conversation with him for helping him move from baritone to tenor was Martial Singher, who he studied with for two years during the transition after leaving the University of Kentucky to pursue a solo career.
