[edit] E.B.?

Someone posted a box in the article that pointed to the 1911 Encyclopedia Britannica. The brief article there had no additional information worth citing. Hal Jespersen 16:57, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] mutual life ins co

there are many 'mutual life insurance companies'. They usually have some specific name preceding these words. What is the correct name? Thanks Hmains 18:44, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Wow, I checked all my references and I could find no mention of the insurance company at all, so I deleted it. Thanks for noticing. Hal Jespersen 23:41, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Cavalry vs. infantry

The line stating that the theory cavalry could replace infantry as the dominant battlefield force flew in the face of two thousand years of military tradition strikes me as opinion. The age of chivalry and Byzantine military history would tend to disagree. I don't fancy myself an editor and would hate to try to rewrite the passage. Any volunteers? [edit] Capable to say the least of it!

Before age thirty Wilson had proved himself a capable engineer, administrator, and field soldier. His Raid was everything that Sherman's should have been and wasn't--in a word, disciplined. He went on to a spectacularly successful career in enterprise. Then he returned to fight in the Spanish American War and write well-regarded histories. In current parlance, he probably sold tickets, too!!

In my less than humble opinion he's the most underrated Union soldier of the Civil War, and one of the most unsung heroes of American history.
