Jamie Alexander Tisch, the daughter of Linda Tanana and Edgar Franklin Alexander, was born Jamie Leigh Anne Alexander in Alabama. A businesswoman,[1] Tisch attended the University of Alabama, graduating with a degree in Business Marketing.[citation needed] She then relocated to California, where she became the National Sales Manager of PG Collections in Los Angeles.
She married Steve Tisch in October 1996, and together they had three children. After becoming a wife and mother, Tisch focused her energy on social responsibility and community service. In 2003, Tisch Co-Founded the Entertainment Industry's Women's Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) along with Marion Laurie, Anne Douglas, Kelly Meyer and Quinn Ezralow. The Women's Cancer Research Fund was created to support innovative research, education, and outreach directed towards the early diagnosis, treatment and prevention of all women's cancers.[2] She has also served as Co-Chair at Saks Fifth Avenue's Unforgettable Evening, one of WCRF's Largest fundraising events.[citation needed] Tisch has also been an integral part of the award-winning “Key to the Cure” initiative with Mercedes-Benz and Saks Fifth Avenue, which has raised over $23 million for WCRF to date. She is also involved in the WCRF process of evaluation, analysis and ultimately the disbursement of funding. WCRF has given over $12 million in grants to cancer centers, doctors, researchers and hospitals across the country.[citation needed]
Jamie Tisch was appointed a Trustee of the Cal State Summer School for the Arts by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2005, where she has served on the board for the past 11 years.[citation needed] For 25 years, the program has been offering artistically gifted students from ethnically and economically diverse backgrounds intensive training in multidisciplinary arts programs for future careers in fine and commercial arts. The program has been recognized as a top model for partnership between the public and private sector.[citation needed] To date, the school has taught more than ten thousand students.[citation needed]
In 2008, Tisch and long-time friend, Elizabeth Wiatt ventured into the Teen & 'Tween Market, opening Fashionology LA,[3] a retail store in Beverly Hills featuring a build-a-bear approach to clothing. Fashionology LA has recently been featured in W Magazine, Angeleno Magazine, C Magazine and Fashion Week Daily.[citation needed]
