Jamie Mackie (born Dorking, September 22, 1985) is a striker with Championship side Plymouth Argyle. He signed for Plymouth from Exeter City in the January 2008 transfer window for a fee of £145,000.

During the 2006/07 season, Mackie emerged as a genuine attacking threat and increasingly as an Exeter City hero.[citation needed] His positive attitude had long been admired,[who?] but his goal in City's 2-1 win over Oxford United on New Year's Day 2007 sparked an outbreak of Mackiemania that is still very much alive in East Devon.

Due to his surname he is often mistaken for being Scottish when in fact he was born and bred in Papua New Guinea, although he could be eligle to play for Switzerland due to his Swiss grandmother.

Jamie grew up in Dorking, Surrey attending The Ashcombe School. Jamie Played for several junior football teams including Capel Wasps F.C, playing as strike partner to the DJ Tim Griffiths. Jamie also played rugby at age-group level for Dorking Rugby Club, primarily playing as a Wing or Centre.

On the 7 October 2006, Mackie was involved in a bizarre incident in Exeter's home game with Halifax town, Mackie appeared to have finished a move down the left with a shot into the bottom corner, however as the shot went so quickly it seemed to come back out of the side netting which made the referee and a lot of other people think it had hit the post despite Mackie's protest. Thankfully from Exeter's point of view Adam Stansfield picked up the rebound and scored so as to avoid too much controversy and Exeter went on to win the game 4-1 anyway. On closer inspection of replays afterwards it seemed Mackie was correct and the ball had gone into the net but spun back through a hole in the side netting and onto the pitch, although the goal remains credited to Stansfield to this day. Mackie's disallowed goal has featured on Soccer AM, and on the 'what happened next' round of A Question of Sport.

During his 1st season at Exeter City he was sent out on loan to Sutton United to gain 1st team experience. A pacy striker and one for defenders to look out for in the Coca Cola Championship.

Late 2007 saw a raft of higher division clubs considering transfer moves in the January 08 window. Bristol Rovers interest was widely known, as was interest from Lincoln City and Grimsby Town. It was thought likely however, that Mackie's destination could well have been Carrow Road, Norwich, with Glenn Roeder, according to well placed sources in Norwich, then seeing Mackie as his number 1 transfer target.

In January 2008, Jamie was named Blue Square Premier League Player of the Month for December 2007 for his upturn in form in front of goal which has generated considerable transfer interest from higher league clubs, including Plymouth Argyle, Bristol City, Bristol Rovers and Cheltenham Town.

Exeter City agreed a deal with Plymouth Argyle at the third attempt of Plymouth asking having snubbed 3 previous offers thought to be around £70,000, £100,000 and £125,000.[citation needed] The agreed deal worth £145,000 includes numerous add-ons for appearances for club and country. Plymouth signed Mackie as a view to replace Sylvan Ebanks-Blake who recently departed.

In his very first appearance for Plymouth Argyle, coming on as a substitute against Barnsley on February 12th, 2008, Jamie scored within 11 seconds of his arrival on the pitch, thus breaking the record held by Tony Witter for the fastest goal scored for Plymouth Argyle on a debut,[1] and scored again later in the game.
