James Whitford Bashford

James Whitford Bashford (May 29, 1849–1919) was born in Fayette, Wisconsin. He was elected a bishop in the Methodist Episcopal Church in the USA in 1904.
Bashford was assigned to China at his own request at age 55, the first resident bishop of the Methodist Episcopal Church in China.
Prior to his election to the Episcopacy, Bashford served as the fourth President of Ohio Wesleyan University from 1889 to 1904.
