James Rouch is a British author of war novels, notably those featuring 'The Zone', a battleground in central Europe during World War III. The first of these was entitled Hard Target and was published in 1980.

Rouch has written other books outside the Zone series such as The War Machines, which are set in World War II, plus a non-fiction book entitled Chemical Warfare published in 1992.

The novels were published in the UK and the USA. The Zone series was also taken by Spain, with other translation rights sold. The last four novels were made available only in Adobe Acrobat downloadable from online publisher Imprint.
