[edit] Biography
James Righton grew up in Stratford-upon-Avon alongside fellow band mate Simon Taylor-Davis who was a year above him in school. James attended Stratford-Upon-Avon High School and worked every summer on the river cruise and hire boats. Post A levels he went on to study Politics and History at Cardiff University, after which he moved to Madrid to teach English, and later returned to London to pursue music. James supports Tottenham Hotspur F.C. and went to watch them whenever he could as a child, but because it was a long journey he was restricted from going more often.
His interest in music was fueled by his musician father, and lead to him being a part in several bands during high school that would quite regularly perform gigs. His most notable band was Shark, in 2000, where he was lead vocalist and guitarist. The band recorded an album at Vada Studios near Stratford-Upon-Avon and released a limited edition CD.
On the invitation Simon Taylor-Davis (whom James had taught to play guitar), James returned to London on the to join the band 'Hollywood is a Verb' as they needed another vocalist/instrumentalist. The band was very briefly active during the summer of 2004 and featured some members of Pull Tiger Tail (whom they had shared a flat with in New Cross).
When he was 12 years old, he joined the Leicester City Football Academy where he was a promising player, he wore his Tottenham Hotspur F.C kit to training and his family warned him that if he continued then he would be dropped, which he was, but by this time James was more interested in music.
[edit] Equipment
James uses a Korg X50 for many live performances, hooking up many effects pedals to it, but has tweaked at the programming to give specific sounds. He mostly likes using Korg and used the Korg MS20 on most of the album. He also uses the Korg Triton Extreme and a Korg RADIAS.
[edit] Personal Life
In 2007 several rumors of a relationship between James and British television presenter Alexa Chung circulated.[citation needed] This has not been confirmed by either of them, but they have been pictured together on several occasions.[citation needed] Currently Alexa Chung is confirmed to be dating Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner.[citation needed]
When James appeared alongside Jamie Reynolds on the MTV2 UK show Gonzo, Zane Lowe brought up the rumours surrounding James' love life, to which he replied "that's just Simon spreading rumors".[citation needed]
