James Leslie ("Jim") Perchard (born 1957 in Jersey) is a Jersey politician.

He was educated at Trinity Primary School, Trinity and De La Salle College. On leaving school, he joined his family’s small farming enterprise, and spent the next 30 years expanding and developing the business into a successful company. He is now only involved in the agricultural industry as a non-executive director of two Jersey farming companies. Jim is married to Susan and has three children James, Holly and Charles.

He has been Chairman of the Jersey Young Farmers' Club, President of the Countrymen's Club, Vice President of the Jersey Farmers' Union

[edit] Electoral History

First stood for the position of Deputy in Nov 2002 for the Parish of St Martin. He lost the election to sitting Deputy Bob Hill. There were two candidates.

In Oct 2005 finished 6th of 15 candidates achieving 8,998 votes and was duly elected to the States of Jersey. [1] [2]

In the elections for Minister in Dec 2006, Senator Perchard nominated Senator Len Norman for the position of Minister of Transport and Technical Services with whom he would have served as Assistant Minister. Senator Norman was defeated by Deputy Guy de Faye.

He stood for the States as an independent candidate, summarising his politics as follows:

"I believe in the freedom of the individual and the equality of opportunity. If elected I will promote and support low tax, small, unobtrusive government that seeks to create a favourable business and social environment."
