James Lee (cricketer, born 1838)

James Edward Lee was a first class cricketer who played 2 matches for Yorkshire County Cricket Club in 1867, against Lancashire CCC in the Roses Match at Station Road Ground, Whalley and against Cambridgeshire in Dewsbury.

He scored a duck in his only innings in the Roses clash, as Yorkshire ran out winners by an innings and 56 runs thanks to George Freeman taking 7 for 10 and 5 for 41 to skittle the red rose for just 57 and 75 in response to Yorkshire's 188.

He scored 6 and 3 against Cambridgeshire in a low scoring match won by Yorkshire by 4 wickets. Those were the only runs he scored in first class cricket and he did not bowl or take a catch.

He was born on March 23, 1838 in Soothill, Dewsbury and died on April 2, 1880, aged just 42, in Earlsheaton in the same Yorkshire town.
