James Kisina
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
James Sioeli Kisina (born 1987) is a half-brother of Schapelle Corby. Corby was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment for the importation of 4.1 kg of cannabis into Bali, Indonesia. Kisina carried Corby's cannabis-laden bodyboard bag into Denpasar's Ngurah Rai Airport on October 8, 2004.
On January 17, 2006, Queensland Police found a quantity of cannabis in the Brisbane home Kisina shares with his (and Corby's) mother, Rosleigh Rose. In addition, a sworn affidavit by arresting officer Detective Sergeant Dean Godfrey of Queensland Police says explicitly "He is suspected of involvement in the exportation of cannabis for which his sister has received a 20-year imprisonment sentence". Senior police have since said that they have no evidence to prove Kisina is involved in exportation and there is no evidence of a link with Corby's arrest.[1]
His brother Clinton Rose has had numerous drug possession charges and is serving 15 or 16 months in Queensland's Woodford Jail.

[edit] Arrest
On January 19, 2006, Kisina along with two other men were arrested and charged in relation to a home invasion at Rochedale, south of Brisbane.
Police allege he and two friends broke into the home of a known drug dealer, who was suspected of illegal activities and under surveillance. Police filmed the trio enter and leave the home. It is alleged that they wore balaclavas, threatened the residents with a machete and iron bar, and gagged and tied up a man and woman, while also beating the man. Police also attest that the trio stole a quantity of cannabis and cash, which was later found at Kisina's home.
Kisina was charged with producing a dangerous drug, possession of a dangerous drug, deprivation of liberty, and assault occasioning bodily harm and was denied bail and remanded in custody until his court appearance on 8 March. At the time, Kisina's solicitor claimed he raided the drug dealer's home to obtain information aimed at freeing Corby from prison.[2]
[edit] Corby's last hope
Corby's Balinese lawyer, Erwin Siregar, said on January 19, 2006 that he would fly to Queensland in the hope that he could obtain an affidavit from Kisina. Siregar hopes to interview Kisina about any information he may have in regards to his sister's case.
[edit] Court Appearances
On March 8, 2006, Kisina was remanded in custody after a brief appearance in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court and was committed to stand trial after a committal hearing on 19 June 2006. His mother Rosleigh Rose was in court to support her son but offered no comment to the waiting media.
In Beenleigh District Court on October 13, 2006, Kisina plead guilty to eight charges: two counts of deprivation of liberty, two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm, and one count each of producing a dangerous drug, possessing a dangerous drug, possessing an item used in a criminal offence and entering a dwelling.
He was sentenced on October 16, 2006 to four years imprisonment, to be suspended after 10 months. Kisina had spent 9 months on remand. He was released from prison on November 18, 2006.[3]
