Son of H.S. Kim, founder of Korean chipmaker Anam Semiconductor. Emigrated to U.S. 1955. Created Amkor Electronics 1968 as U.S. sales arm for father's chip packaging business. Took public 30 years later. Made a second fortune in gaming. With wife, Agnes, started Electronics Boutique retail chain 1977; first mall kiosk sold calculators, digital watches. Shifted to videogame consoles and accessories. Sold in 2005 to GameStop for $1.4 billion; netted $375 million. Has a net worth of US$2 billion according to Forbes.[1]
