James I. C. Boyd

James Ian Craig Boyd is an author and narrow gauge railway historian.

Boyd has spent a lifetime researching and writing on this subject. As a result his books on narrow gauge railways in North and Mid Wales, the Isle of Man and Ireland are considered to be standard works on the subject[citation needed]. His books published by The Oakwood Press since 1965 are rarely out of print such is their importance to and popularity with railway historians and enthusiasts alike[citation needed].

Boyd was born in 1920 to a family connected for many years with the Scottish textile machinery industry. His lifelong labours of love have been helped considerably by inheritance from within the family and without which much of his work could not have been done.

In his formative years he had W. H. Auden as an English teacher and was taught mathematics and science by Jeffrey Hoyland, a qualified railway engineer.

Boyd lives in Colwall, Herefordshire.
