James Harvey (born February 15, 1979, in Perth, Western Australia) is an Australian basketball player currently playing in the NBL. Harvey currently plays for the Gold Coast Blaze and previously played for the Perth Wildcats and West Sydney Razorbacks.

In March 2007, it was revealed Harvey was one of three Australian sportsmen whose conversations with a convicted drug dealer were recorded by police phone taps during operation Remuda in 2003.[1] It was revealed Harvey had talked about his use of the drug ecstasy.[1] After conducting an investigation, the NBL fined Harvey $2,000.[2]

[edit] NBL

Harvey is one of the league's premier guards and brings experience, leadership and a hot shot to the Blaze. Harvey averaged almost 21 points per game last season, the eighth highest in the league. He was part of Perth's 1999-00 NBL championship and 2002-03 grand final appearance and won the league's most valuable player award in 2000-01. Between stints with the Wildcats and West Sydney, Harvey played in the Treviso summer league in Italy and in Israel with Maccabi Rishon Le-Zion. Harvey spent last season with the West Sydney Razorbacks alongside fellow Blaze recruits Scott McGregor and Mark Watkins (assistant coach) but started his NBL career with the Perth Wildcats.[3]

In his first year for the Gold Coast Blaze, Harvey is having another fine season in the NBL, averaging 21.9 ppg which is 7th highest in the league and has the 9th best 3 pt %, shooting at 44.8%. Largely due to Harvey the Blaze are 7th on the ladder.
