James H. Rodriguez is an elementary school in the City of Española, New Mexico.[1] The school has 408 students and the current principal is Maxine Abeyta. It was was built in 1962, on the site of an old baseball field, and originally named Española Elementary. Its name was changed in the fall of 2002 to honor former teacher, James H. Rodriguez. Its official mascot is the Redbird (a smaller version of a cardinal, the mascot of Española Middle School East campus). The school currently has 20 classrooms and serves grades 1 to 6.
The school was completely demolished in 2005 and rebuilt in 2006.
