James H. Ammons served as chancellor of North Carolina Central University (NCCU) from 2001 to 2007, and on February 1, 2007, Florida A&M University (FAMU) selected Ammons as its tenth president. Ammons is scheduled to assume the presidency on July 2, 2007. [1]
Before becoming the head of NCCU in 2001, Ammons served as provost at FAMU. Ammons is an FAMU alumnus, and is originally from Polk County, Florida. Ammons received his B.S. in Political Science (Magna Cum laude) from FAMU, and his Master of Public Administration (MPA) and Ph.D. in government from Florida State University.
