James Green (basketball coach)

James Green is a college basketball coach and will be introduced as the next Head Coach at Jacksonville State University, in Jacksonville Alabama on Wednesday April 23, 2008. He interviewed for the head coaching vacancy (left behind by the non-renewal of past Head Coach, Mike LaPlante) on Friday April 18, 2008 in Jacksonville, Alabama. Green takes over a JSU Gamecock Program that has lost 20 or more games in 3 of the last 4 seasons and is expected to take a slight hit due to APR Standards not being met (Scholarship Reduction). Green was chosen over current Alabama Asst. Coach Phillip Pearson, current UMass Asst. Coach Tim Maloney and current Hoover High School (Birmingham, AL) Head Coach Charles Burkett. Green will be the first African-American Head Coach of a Major Sport at Jacksonville State University. Green was previously the head coach at Mississippi Valley State University. Prior to going to MVSU, he was head coach at Southern Mississippi University, as well as being an assistant coach at Iowa State University and the University of Alabama.
