James Theodoric David (Hatchet, Rebel) (December 2, 192729 July 2007) is a former American football defensive back for the Detroit Lions (1952-1959). He attended Colorado A&M.

David played for Colorado A&M. In his senior year, he was second in the nation in receptions. [1]

[edit] Professional career

David was selected in the twenty-second round of the 1952 NFL Draft (261 overall). [2] The Lions won National Football League Championships in 1952, 1953 and 1957 with David as a starter. He was selected to the Pro Bowl for the final six years of his career. David played in a backfield with Jack Christiansen and Yale Lary. [3] As of 2007, he ranks fifth all-time on the Lions’ interception career list with 36. [4]
